This morning, Linna and I went to see a performance of Goldilocks and the Three Bears at the Singapore Repertory Theatre in the Robertson Quay area. It was absolutely adorable! The show started at 10 a.m., and it was over by 11 a.m., which is the perfect amount of time for short attention spans. There had to have been 200 kids around the age of five there with their schools/nurseries, and I'm pretty sure the show we saw was sold out. The cast, although very small, was so talented. They all did such a good job keeping the children (audience) entertained by asking them questions, and to participate throughout the show. Linna is just 19 months (the show is recommended for children age three and above), but she was glued the entire time, and I even had a laugh or two during the show. The kids laughed throughout the show!

There was so much singing and dancing, and I adored the cast members' English accents when they spoke and sang. That's something we don't hear a lot of at shows in Minnesota. The set was constantly changing from the bears' house scene, to the forest scene, so there was always something happening for the kiddos. I loved the bears' costumes too, as they weren't your "typical" bear costumes. They were cute, creative, and had a lot of movement to them! There was also this black-bird puppet that made an appearance two or three times during the show. Linna could not get enough of it, and every time the bird would disappear, she'd ask for "MORE, MORE!". When we left the theatre, she kept saying "BIRD, BIRD!". There was one semi-"scary" part of the show, when the "claw" from the construction truck came down from above. The set got a little dark, and the sound effect was loud, but it didn't scare Linna (and she's scared of a LOT of things). I did, however, hear one little one crying in the audience after that scene:) Trust me, it's not enough to keep you from seeing this show.

If you're in Singapore and have little ones, check it out for yourself. Tickets are pretty inexpensive, at about $20 during the week (go during the week to save yourself about $10), and infants do not require a ticket. I wish our friends in Minnesota could see this one. If you see the show, and you're not singing "we are a family of bears..." by the time you leave, I would be very surprised! We sang it all the way home:) As a fan of this children's book when I was a little girl, I was so happy to share this experience with my daughter.
