We had ants.

That's right, a couple weeks ago, THIS...

... is what our house looked like. Seriously, it was like we lived in Cuba Gooding Jr.'s ant house ("We've got ants Jerry!") on Jerry Maguire. Ants were literally crawling up our wall! When your 11-month-old starts finding little ants in your house on her own and tries to eat them, you know you have a problem. So gross.

Tackling a summer ant problem is difficult and stressful enough, without throwing a mobile baby into the mix. Normally, we'd just put ant poison and traps all over the house, but when you have a baby who gets into EVERYTHING, it makes things a little more difficult.

My husband wanted to spray Raid everywhere, which of course is extremely poisonous for babies. I couldn't keep track of where he was spraying it, and if he was cleaning it up. I had to put the Raid spraying to a stop, and instead he got some "baby safe" ant traps and some poison that you put on paper, and the ants bring it back to their nest. I freaked out one day when Linna found one and put it in her mouth. But after AJ called poison control and found out it wasn't a problem, I settled down a little bit.

We then decided to treat each floor of the house with ant poison, a floor at a time (the gel you put on pieces of cardboard or paper). We put the poison all over the basement, and kept Linna upstairs for two days. Then we just hid the ant poison upstairs behind things she absolutely couldn't get at. However, after putting the poison downstairs, we found the ants' trail (it started in the basement, went up the wall, all the way upstairs, and to their nest) and put a LOT of poison at the start or end of their trail. They ate it up quick, brought it back to their little friends, and two days later... we got 'em!

There's no more ants, and a poison-free baby in the Saigh household! Phew...
